On October 7, 2026, Waymo announced a framework for planning, testing, and strengthening incident-management capabilities for automated vehicle fleets, set out in a paper its researchers posted on arXiv on September 4, 2026, "On Being Prepared: Automated Vehicle Incident Management Exercise Practices." The framework adapts established emergency-management practice, including FEMA's Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program, and describes four exercise categories, from consultations and workshops to full-scale exercises. Waymo says it provides a shared approach for AV developers, operational partners, first responders, and public-safety agencies.

On September 17, 2026, Figure announced Helix 2.5, a neural network for whole-body control of a humanoid robot on long tasks in homes it has not visited. Figure says Helix 2.5 was pretrained from random initialization entirely on Index, its dataset of human behavior, and that a single base model was then adapted to tidying living rooms, folding towels, and making beds. Figure tested these behaviors in 30 Bay Area homes in which it says no data had been collected. The announcement does not say whether Helix 2.5's weights or code will be released.

The Isaac Lab project published Isaac Lab 3.0 Early Access on GitHub on September 16, 2026. The release notes describe a multi-backend architecture in which supported tasks can switch physics, rendering or visualization backends without rewriting the environment, and say many workflows can now run without installing or launching Isaac Sim, for example with Newton physics. The release is built for Isaac Sim 6.1, Python 3.12, PyTorch 2.11, NVIDIA Warp 1.16 and Newton 1.5.2. Between Early Access and General Availability, which is targeted toward the end of October 2026, the release branch will focus only on bug fixes, stability, compatibility and documentation improvements. USASI has not tested this release.

Agility Robotics unveiled Digit 5, its next-generation humanoid robot, on September 15, 2026. Agility says Digit 5 continuously monitors for people and responds by autonomously avoiding, stopping, or assuming a seated position, with an independent safety controller overseeing those responses, so that it can work in close proximity to people without the physical safety barriers required by traditional automation. The company expects early access to begin in the first half of 2027 and general availability for manufacturing, warehouse, and distribution operators by the end of 2027. The press release carries forward-looking-statement disclosures for Agility's proposed business combination with Churchill Capital Corp XI.

NVIDIA's Hugging Face model card gives July 20, 2026 as the release date of Cosmos3-Edge, a 4B-parameter model in the Cosmos3 collection, on both Hugging Face and GitHub. The card describes Cosmos3 as omnimodal world models built on a Mixture-of-Transformers architecture that take text, image, video and action-trajectory inputs and generate text, images, video and action outputs for physical AI uses such as robotics and autonomous vehicles. The model is released under OpenMDW-1.1 and is described as ready for commercial and non-commercial use. A note on the card says the generator checkpoint and runtime defaults were updated on August 25, 2026. USASI has not tested the model.
